Pinkathon Bengaluru was an unprecedented success, with a participation of 3500+ women, Bengaluru being the 2nd out of the 10 city series. It took place at the Kanteerava Stadium on the 7th of April, 2013. Women from all walks of life came together on a Sunday morning to run and support the cause of Breast Cancer Awareness and encourage women’s health and fitness.

Deveika Bhojwani, founder of Women’s Cancer Initiative, the NGO associated with Pinkathon, and also a cancer survivor herself, was present to encourage women to run for the cause and also spread awareness about early detection.

The Kannada film industry also showed their support towards Pinkathon Bengaluru. Kannada actress, Ramya flagged off the three categories, 10K, 5K & 3K (The Pink Ribbon Walk), of the run. Priyanka Upendra being a popular Kannada star ran the 5k. Well known athletes like Reeth Abraham & Ashwini Nachappa also ran the 10K to support their pink sisters.

RJ Rapid Rashmi, Bengaluru’s most popular RJ and also the mascot for the run completed the 10K distance for the first time. Being a non runner herself, she took up the challenge and after a training period of 1 month with Milind Soman and the Bengaluru runners, she actually completed the run successfully.

The promotional activities at Forum mall for the same started 5 weeks prior to the main run which attracted crowds in 100’s to come forward and support Pinkathon in every way possible. The Pink Art, Beer run and Treadathon had 200+ people participate in them voluntarily to spread awareness and get trained for the run at the same time. Men played a big role in encouraging the purpose of Pinkathon by participating in the promotional activities throughout the month.

Bengaluru’s enthusiasm towards Pinkathon raised the bars higher than they were. Pinkathon clearly gets bigger, better and impactful by the city.
